Real Journeys Expands Its Milford Sound Coach Fleet With New State Of The Art Euro V Vehicle
Real Journeys has proved it is streets ahead when it comes to its environmental commitment by commissioning one of the first coaches in New Zealand to meet Euro V emissions standards.
The 54 seat coach, which will be the biggest in the Real Journeys fleet, is due to begin service on the Queenstown to Milford Sound route in September 2010. This coach will provide the ultimate touring experience with its unique angled “bullet” shape, use of tiered seating and expansive glass to maximise passenger viewing.
To accommodate the extra seats the new coach will be 13 metres long.
Real Journeys Coach Services Manager, David Osborne, said this Euro V rated coach will produce 43 percent less particulates and noxious oxides than the current Euro IV rated coaches used by Real Journeys.
The Euro rating is a standard set by the EEC for emissions and fuel consumption.
The introduction of a larger vehicle means that Real Journeys can carry more passengers compared to the amount of fuel utilised per journey.
“Over a year the extra seats on this new coach (compared to a standard coach) equate to a saving of around 3600 litres of fuel,” Mr Osborne said.
Real Journeys is committed to rolling out a second 54 seat coach meeting the Euro V standards in September 2011.
The new Volvo B12B 420 – horsepower Euro V coach is being built in Palmerston North by boutique coach builders Coachwork Central.
