Major Investment In Manapouri - Doubtful Sound Operations By Real Journeys
Real Journeys is planning to make a major investment in its Manapouri and Doubtful Sound operations.
Subject to Real Journeys gaining consents for the upgrade of wharves at Pearl Harbour and West Arm on Lake Manapouri, the contract for construction of a new catamaran will be let with the intention of the 22 metre vessel being in service by October 2011.
An extended Manapouri Visitor Centre and visitor parking area are also planned.
Real Journeys operates daytime Wilderness and Overnight Cruises in Doubtful Sound – all of which begin with a cruise across Lake Manapouri and coach trip over Wilmot Pass into Deep Cove.
Real Journeys General Manager International Sales and Business Development, Tony McQuilkin, said the move will be a substantial investment for the company.
“The new vessel will become the prime mover of passengers on Lake Manapouri and demonstrates continued investment in a core area of Real Journeys operations.
“In 2005 the high speed catamaran, the Patea Explorer was commissioned in addition to the investment in recent years in new coaches to transport passengers over Wilmot Pass,” Mr McQuilkin said.
