Milford Bridge to Bar Fun Run Keenly Contested

Media Release

1 April 2010

Contestants from throughout Southland and Otago took Milford’s annual ‘Bridge to Bar’ fun run in their stride raising over $2500 for the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation.

The 5km race from Tutoko Bridge to the Milford pub is organised by tourism operator Real Journeys and has become a popular event for residents of the remote township over the past 10 years.

Angus Small, Operations Manager for Real Journeys in Milford Sound said businesses throughout Fiordland and Queenstown were extremely generous in their support of this year’s race, donating a huge range of prizes and auction items.

“We had a fantastic turn out with over 90 entries this year ranging from the seriously competitive to those preferring to take a more leisurely pace.  Some contestants opted to wear fancy dress which was quite a sight in a place as remote at Milford!

“Over $2500 was raised from the race entry donation and a charity auction afterwards which was only made possible by the incredible support we received from local businesses,” Mr Small said.

“This year all funds raised are going to the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation.”

The race was won by Brendon Roy of Real Journeys (first male) and Alice Gironella of Southern Discoveries (first female).
