2016 Cruise-for-a-Cause applications close 30 April

Date: 12 April 2016

Media Release

Real Journeys Cruise-for-a-Cause applications close at the end of this month.  The project enables two community based not-for-profit/charitable organisations to raise funds for a good cause by selling tickets to an entire overnight cruise in the World Heritage Area of Fiordland.

The Doubtful Sound Overnight Cruise-for-a-Cause is on Saturday 27 August and the Milford Sound Overnight Cruise-for-a-Cause follows three weeks later, on Saturday 17 September (2016).  Both are staff training cruises that take place just before the new season officially starts.  The cruises include dinner, bed and breakfast and water activities (exploring the fiord close up in a kayak or small boat).

The selected organisations set their own ticket price, do their own marketing and receive 100% of the proceeds.   All Real Journeys requires is a full boat-load of passengers for training purposes.

Last year’s Cruise-for-a-Cause recipients, the Yellow-eyed Penguin Trust (YEPT) and Queenstown Lakes Family Centre (QLFC) raised almost $27,000.

Sue Murray, General Manager, YEPT called it “the best trip ever.. a wonderful opportunity both to raise funds and for us to appreciate this world class location”.

Ilona Weekley, QLFC General Manager (at the time) said that it was an “amazing setting and a far more intimate experience than any other fundraisers we’ve ever done”.
