Discovery Expeditions

Embark on a journey of discovery

Discovery Expeditions

Trace Captain Cook's voyage on a multi-day expedition through some of the most remote & beautiful regions in New Zealand.

A multi-day Discovery Expedition cruise takes you on an exploration of Fiordland or Stewart Island and offers an insight into the world as it once was; raw, pristine and largely uninhabited.

Spend your days immersed in isolated wilderness as you voyage the seas on our purpose-built vessel, taking in the natural wonders and wildlife along the way. There are plenty of opportunities to disembark the vessel with daily nature hikes, kayaking and tender craft activities.
Throughout the voyage, onboard nature guides, who are experts on southern New Zealand, share knowledge of the flora, fauna and history of these regions.

Welcome aboard the Milford Wanderer

Just because you’re escaping civilization doesn’t mean you have to go without its comforts. Our vessel, the Milford Wanderer, is a modern motorised vessel that has been purpose-built for navigating southern New Zealand.

Designed along the lines of a traditional sailing scow, it has old world charm combined with modern facilities and the latest in safety equipment.

Your sleeping quarters on board the Milford Wanderer are warm and comfortable (two passengers per sleeping compartment) with a maximum of 32 passengers per departure. All linen and towels are provided.

While on board you will enjoy delicious meals prepared by the onboard chef. The galley is well provisioned and all meals are catered; including morning and afternoon teas. In fact, Discovery Expeditions are famous for their delicious and plentiful home-cooked meals, so you certainly won’t go home hungry!
