More information about stargazing at Cardrona

Cardrona sits nicely between Queenstown & Wanaka, & has very little light pollution. It’s easily accessible from both towns, but remote enough to be considered a “dark spot” with incredible views of the night sky.

Things you should know

  • Bring extra layers – it can get very cold on the mountain at night. Cardrona will provide jackets if required
  • The tour isn’t recommended for very young children
  • Arrive early to give yourself plenty of time to get ready – 30 mins before is best
  • Stargazing runs subject to weather conditions. You will be given a call by the the Cardrona Guest Services team if the tour is not running as planned
  • Bookings are essential – bookings will be taken up until 7pm on the day of the tour

Getting there

Cardrona is a short drive from both Queenstown & Wanaka. Get there via the Cardrona Valley Road – if you’re coming from Queenstown it’s just 2km after the iconic Cardrona Hotel on your left. If you’re driving from Wanaka the Cardrona mountain road will be on your right, just after the Cardrona Bra Fence & across the road from the Cardrona Distillery.
