Celebrate The Start Of Winter At Queenstown Winter Festival 2019

Winter is finally here, and what better way to celebrate the start of this magical season than with the Real Journeys Queenstown Winter Festival? This year’s festival runs from Thursday June 20 to Sunday June 23, 2019 and is full of exciting events and activities for all to attend.

Taking place across multiple venues in the greater Queenstown area, the Winter Festival is an annual celebration of Queenstown and the diversity and vibrancy of our community. Last year’s festival had more than 45,000 attendees, and we’re expecting an even more amazing experience than ever this year.

Events at Queenstown Winter Festival 2019

There’s no shortage of fun events taking place at this year’s Winter Festival, including live music, comedy shows, the famous dog derby, dodgeball, fireworks, races and so much more. We’ve highlighted just a few of the events below so you can have a little taste of what’s to come.

Matariki Torchlight Hikoi

Join us at the festival village in Earnslaw Park to celebrate Matariki with a beautiful Torchlight Hikoi throught the streets of Queenstown, before making your way down to the waterfront at Marine Parade for an amazing cultural welcome.

Colonel's Homestead Pop-Up

If you love our delicious BBQ at Walter Peak, get excited! This winter festival we are bringing our BBQ masters to Earnslaw Park to cook up a storm for you. Choose from tasty BBQ Zamora bratwurst sausage in a roll with savoy cabbage, jalapeno pepper slaw and chimichurri, Cardrona merino lamb burger with pickled cucumber, or a warm and filling Colonel's Homestead pumpkin soup. A perfect hearty meal to help you take on the festival.

Real Journeys Friday Fireworks

Can't have a winter festival without an awesome fireworks display, can you? There's heaps of live music on the Bathhouse stage from The Cellar Doors, Richter City Rebels, chart topper Mitch James and L.A.B. along with a spectacular firework display over Queenstown Bay from 7pm.

Go Orange Splash for Cash

A throwback to way back. A good old fashioned swimming race through the ice cold waters of Lake Wakatipu. The prize? A big wad of cash!.

Monteith’s Dog Derby

One of the most beloved events at the Winter Festival is the Monteith’s Dog Derby. Come and join the fun running and sliding down the slopes of Cardrona with our furry friends. Participants and their dogs flee down the side of the mountain for 1.2km while crowds cheer them on – what’s not to love?

Undy 500

Run, jump and weave your way through an obstacle course on Queenstown beach for a chance to win prizes and bragging rights. The catch: you have to do it in your underwear. The Undy 500 is the perfect time to show winter what you’re made of and have a good time while you’re at it. If you don’t want to participate, watching the event can be just as fun!

Where: Queenstown lakefront

MacPac Mountain Bikes On Snow

It’s no secret that Queenstown is a mountain biker’s dream come true in the summer. But what about mountain biking in the winter down the snow-covered mountains? Get your adrenaline rush and enter the MacPac Mountain Bikes On Snow challenge for a chance to win some awesome prizes.

Music and Entertainment at Queenstown Winter Festival 2019

We’ve put together an all-star roster of music, comedy and entertainment for you this winter. Here are just a few of the highlights.

Trinity Roots & Ladi6

Kicking off the festival are Trinity Roots & Ladi6, two New Zealand artists that embody the very vibe of Queenstown. The Bathhouse Stage will play host to a number of free concerts throughout the weekend, so stop by and check it out!

Friday Comedy Night

This year’s Winter Festival has a huge lineup for Friday Comedy Night, including heavy hitters like Jeremy Corbett, Hayley Sproull, Mel Bracewell, Cori Gonzalez-Macuer, Dai Henwood and Paul Ego. This one will sell out, so get your tickets soon.

Audiology Presents A Night of Drum & Bass ft. Flowidus

New Zealand’s premium drum and bass band Flowidus will be playing at the Memorial Centre for this year’s Winter Festival. Since blowing up on George FM back in 2018, they’ve played a run of sold out shows throughout New Zealand. This is sure to be an incredible show!

Hot Dub Time Machine

Australia’s favourite party Hot Dub Time Machine will be taking over the Queenstown Winter Festival Sunday Session. Showcasing music from every decade and every genre from 60s rock to 90s house and more, Hot Dub Time Machine will be mixing the best tunes in chronological order live.
