This year’s Cruise-for-a-Cause to Doubtful Sound will raise funds for Queenstown community support group ‘Baskets of Blessing’ to help distribute meals for individuals and families experiencing difficult times. The second recipient is the Wildlife Hospital in Dunedin, which treats some of the most threatened species - from native birds to penguins and seals.

With an historical New Zealand theme, a hundred elegantly attired guests raised over $85,000 towards Cooper Island Island Restoration Project at the Real Journeys ‘Birds of a Feather’ Conservation Ball on Saturday. 100% of their ticket price went towards Real Journeys’ conservation effort to remove predators on Cooper Island, Dusky Sound.

Clay pipe discovery believed to be from legendary Fiordland explorer William Docherty
A smoker’s clay pipe discovered during Real Journeys conservation work on Cooper Island, in Dusky Sound, is believed to have belonged to legendary explorer William Docherty, who lived in Fiordland’s remote Dusky Sound from 1877 to 1894.
