Stewart Island

Stewart Island is New Zealand’s ultimate eco-tourism destination.

Its densely forested hills, and untouched coastline of rocky outcrops and creamy golden sand beaches make it a haven for native marine and bird life. Vivid dawn and twilight hues give rise to the island’s Maori name, Rakiura – land of the glowing skies.

Cruise to Stewart Island on our modern catamarans. Regular ferry services depart daily from Bluff with coach transfers from Invercargill, Te Anau and Queenstown.  Vehicle parking is available at the Bluff Visitor Terminal.

On arrival, enjoy a leisurely cruise of beautiful Paterson Inlet, or try a Marine Nature Cruise (which includes a semi-submersible experience).  Explore the island on our Village and Bays Tours or enjoy Stewart Island's forest and coastline on an Guided Walk.  Alternatively travel independently with our rental cars, mountain bikes and scooters.

There is a range of accommodation on Stewart Island to suit all tastes and budgets - from backpackers and self contained units, to motels and upmarket bed & breakfasts like Stewart Island Lodge.
