Reignite your passion for the mountain with a whole new experience – Cardrona’s Mountain Carts are the first of their kind in New Zealand. Take a leisurely roll or race your friends on these purpose-built, 3-wheeled downhill carts.

  • Mountain carting sessions run for 2 hours at 10am, 12pm & 2pm, with an added session on Fridays at 4pm
  • There are 3 mountain cart trails across the mountain
  • No experience is required
  • Full equipment & safety briefing is provided – please arrive at least 30 mins before your carting session to allow for this
  • The Lounge is open daily for coffee & lunch before or after your carting session

Cardrona’s mountain carts are an accessible downhill adventure that you don’t need any experience for. Explore the mountain via 3 purpose-built, scenic trails that will have you marvelling at the views of Queenstown, the Cardrona Valley & Wanaka as you cruise or race down. Take the McDougall’s Chondola or the Whitestar Express back up to the top of the mountain & do it all over again!

Things you should know

  • Two trails serviced by the McDougall’s Chondola are open every day of the summer season
  • “A Real Journey” trail to Captain’s Basin is open on Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays throughout the season (alongside Whitestar Express opening days), as well as during busy periods
  • Carts are assigned based on height:
    • Small: 120–165cm
    • Medium: 155–180cm
    • Large: 170–195cm
    • Extra Large: 180–210cm
  • Children smaller than 120cm can ride with their parents on a bigger cart
  • Bring sturdy footwear & clothing layers (including a windproof jacket)

Cardrona is a scenic drive from NZ’s famous resort towns – Wanaka & Queenstown.
