Terms & Conditions

Your acceptance of the terms and conditions outlined are required to process your reservation.

Prepayment by credit card and subsequent confirmation by Real Journeys Ltd is accepted as confirmation of your booking. 

All transactions are conducted in New Zealand Dollars (NZD). Due to exchange rate fluctuations, at times there may be some variance in the amounts refunded compared to the amount initially charged. Real Journeys Ltd (and associated companies) does not accept any liability for these variances or any subsequent credit card/bank charges relating to these transfers to customer's accounts. Payments using Amex, JCB or Diners incur a non-refundable 3% surcharge.

Real Journeys (and associated companies) reserve the right to amend timetables, cancel departures, substitute plant and equipment, amend specials or offers and alter ticket prices at any time.

All agreements and contracts shall be subject solely to New Zealand law and the exclusive jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.  In the event of a cancellation or amendment to your booking, notification period is in NZ time (NZST).

We strongly recommend travel insurance for all our experiences, especially for those that require longer notification periods for cancellation (see below).

By making a booking and consenting to our terms & conditions, you are agreeing to receiving emails from us. These emails are only for internal improvement purposes and will never be passed to third parties for any mailing lists. Please ensure you have read and understand our Privacy Policy.

Cancellations:

In the event of a cancellation or amendment to your booking, refunds will only be granted when Real Journeys receives notification at least 24 hours prior (NZ time) to departure date EXCEPT:

  • Milford Sound Overnight Cruises: 5 days prior to departure
  • Doubtful Sound Overnight Cruises: 5 days prior to departure
  • Stewart Island Lodge: 5 days prior to arrival date.
  • Selected Special Events: Refer below * 

Please note the different and additional bookings terms and conditions detailed below for Stewart Island Wild Kiwi Encounter, Discovery Expeditions and Birds of a Feather Charity Ball .


Stewart Island Wild Kiwi Encounter - Kiwi guarantee

  • If you don’t see a kiwi we will refund you 20% of your ticket price.


Discovery Expeditions - Terms and Conditions:

Age: If you are over 70 years, please consult your doctor to check your physical fitness.

Cancellations: All cancellations must be received in writing. Cancellation fees are not negotiable - we recommend travel insurance. 

Web bookings require full payment at the time of booking.

Phone and all other booking methods require a non-refundable deposit at the time of booking and full payment 120 days prior to departure.

Cancellation fees are charged on the following basis for all bookings: 

For departures in 2019

  • Outside 90 days prior to departure: NZ$100.00 per person + 10% of your ticket price
  • 89 - 60 days prior to departure: NZ$200.00 per person + 10% of your ticket price
  • Within 59 days prior to departure: 100% of your ticket price

For departures in 2020

  • Outside 90 days prior to departure: NZ$100.00 per person + 20% of your ticket price
  • 89 - 60 days prior to departure: NZ$200.00 per person + 20% of your ticket price
  • Within 59 days prior to departure: 100% of your ticket price

Once the expedition has departed, no portion of the package payment is refundable in the event of the individual or group being unable to proceed.

A $50 fee is charged for amendments to a confirmed reservation. Please note we cannot accept any amendments within 59 days prior to travel.


*Birds of a Feather Conservation Ball 2019 - Terms and Conditions:

  • Cancellations:  This is a charity event and no refunds will be issued.  However, if you wish to transfer the names on your tickets to others, then please contact our Events Team  quoting your booking reference.

Locals' Specials Campaign - valid for travel  1 August - 27 September 2019 - Terms and Conditions:

  • On occasions we offer discounted trips to our loyal local residents of Southland and Otago, New Zealand.
  • These specials are only available to residents of Southland and Otago.  Proof of address is required at check-in (i.e. current power, phone, rates bill or payslip) to secure the Locals' Specials rates for this limited time.  Any customers unable to provide proof will be required to pay full retail rate, if they want to travel on the trips they have booked and paid for.
  • The promotion applies to new bookings only. If cancelling or amending a retail booking a refund will only be granted when Real Journeys receives notification 24 hours prior to departure for day activities and 5 days prior for Overnight Cruises and Stewart Island Lodge accommodation.
  • "Kiwi guarantee" is part of the Wild Kiwi Encounter tour. If customers don't see a kiwi we will refund 20% of the ticket price, based on the Locals' Specials rate.
